Montana City Readies for Annual Christmas Tree Burn January 16thThe annual Montana City Christmas Tree Burn will take place this Saturday, January 16, at 7 pm. Montana City Store is once again hosting this popular event that annually draws quite a crowd to watch as flames leap high into the dark winter sky. Northern Jefferson County residents are invited to bring used, dead, natural Christmas trees (NO artificial trees and without decorations or lights) by 3 pm the day of the event, to the field south of Montana City Store and the Elkhorn Inn. Families are welcome to come and join their neighbors in watching the Montana City Volunteer Fire Department light and control this large, friendly fire. Free coffee and hot chocolate will be available - courtesy of the Elkhorn Mountain Inn. In addition to providing a service to Jefferson County by burning the trees rather than sending them to the landfill, this annual event is also used for hands-on training of MCVFD firefighters. Fire trucks will be on site and children of all ages are welcome to come and check them out. Eagle Emergency Services will also have an ambulance on-scene and EMTs will give tours. This event is free and open to the public. Those attending are advised to dress warmly. ![]() |
