Burning Christmas Trees Warm Community Spirit in Montana CityOver one hundred people turned out Saturday night to witness the 2009 Christmas Tree Burn held in Montana City. Fire Chief Rick Abraham attributed the large crowd to the nice weather with a mild temperature of 25°. The annual event has often been held under some pretty cold and often sub-zero conditions. The glow from flames reaching over thirty feet into the night sky could be seen in Clancy, bringing some folks from that neighborhood out to see what was going on. Montana City Volunteer Fire Department and Eagle Ambulance gave tours of their equipment to young and old. Unfortunately, Elkhorn Search and Rescue was called out - involved in a rescue up Lump Gulch in Clancy - and was unable to participate as planned. The Elkhorn Mountain Inn offered free coffee to the crowd. Jefferson County Deputies, Tom Grimsrud, and Dave Kosola, stopped by briefly at the event to say hello and discuss the fire operations. Kendall Schlosser, 7, her sister, Avery, 5, with their mother, Lisa, said she came because, “I want to see the fire!” Montana City resident, Russ Hoosline, commented, “This is a good community event – it brings the community together.” His wife, Joni, remarked that the Christmas Tree Burn “also gives folks a chance to see some of the emergency responders and their equipment.” That was especially valid this year with a new fire engine to be seen. Keri Arnsensmeyer and Parker Fife, EMTs with Eagle Ambulance said they enjoyed coming out to support the event and both were glad nobody got hurt. The Annual Christmas Tree Burn is just one of many community events led by the Montana City Volunteer Fire Department. © Montana City Volunteer Fire Department 2009 - Any Reuse Must Include a Link to http://www.montanacityfire.org ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
