  • Please make attending this meeting a priority; the survivability of your property may depend upon the information we have to share.

Montana City VFD is hosting a Firewise Community Meeting, Tuesday, May 11, 7 pm, in the Montana City School Gym to share information with Northern Jefferson County residents on wildfire preparations for the 2010 fire season.

While volunteer firefighters are training to handle wildland fires, property owners are responsible to prepare their homes and businesses to survive them.

Recent precipitation and cooler temperatures have extended the window of time to prepare before fire danger stays high and some fire mitigation activities are limited due to dry conditions.

Creating survivable space, possible funding for mitigation projects, and evacuation procedures will be some of the topics presented.

In addition to MCVFD Fire Chief, Rick Abraham, Pat McKelvey and Sonny Stiger from Tri-County FireSafe Working Group, will be presenting valuable information to residents. Stiger, a fire behavior analyst, has decades of experience in wildfire, as does McKelvey.

The formal portion of the meeting will last no more than one hour with time afterwards for questions. Home and business owners will have the opportunity to sign up for a free wildfire evaluation and view evacuation maps.
